Thank you all so much for coming up to our first Poetry Night of the semester! You guys genuinely don't know how much our staff appreciates the attendance, and all the new faces! It was absolutely amazing getting to relax in such a comfy space, while sharing sweets, poems, and music! We cannot wait to see you guys again next month, with an even cozier vibe! 🍁⭐️🍪

Welcome to Brushfire's Poetry Night! A monthly event of cozy vibes, shared word, and soft tune. Happening every second Thursday of the month, come and present prose, poetry, or music at the Honors College Lounge! We are incredibly thankful to Inkblot for the beautiful graphic and video advertisements! Of course, thanks going out to the Honors College and ASUN as well! We appreciate all the support, and artistic beauty you've all chosen to share with us, and cannot wait to continue this tradition for many years more.

Our first poetry night of this semester is happening in 2 days! We will be officially shifting poetry night to be the second Thursday of the month, and here’s how the dates will be set for the rest of the semester. If there are any changes to these dates we will let you know here! Another big thanks to the Honor’s College for providing us their space. We will be in the Continuing education building on the second floor. We will have signs posted day of to help you find our room! Bring a friend and your poetry for a night of open mic reading! We are also introducing acoustic music performances so bring an instrument and a song as well! Everyone is welcomed whether they want to perform or listen to the audience. We will also be providing free insomnia cookies for everyone as fuel for the night! Hope to see you all there!

FINALLY, Poetry Night is back! This month we are hosting the event on the SECOND THURSDAY, OCT 9TH, rather than our normal First Tuesday, and this will most likely stay the norm. (We may be looking into making Poetry Night a more frequent event, too!) We are still figuring out how the dates will fall for the rest of the year, but here is an example of how the date change works: OCT 9TH NOV 13TH DEC 11TH (Once again, dates past OCT are subject to change!) Moving on, we have to give a BIG thanks to the Honors College for giving us their space in the Continuing Education building, and overall supporting Brushfire. They have helped LOADS with getting Poetry Night successfully rehosted, and even gave us some new mediums to work with! Of course, while we are still mainly focusing on open mic poetry: We are introducing acoustic music performances to our poetry nights! It will most likely max out at three performances per event, due to time, though shorter songs = more performers. You will have to propose a song or two you are considering to play at the event (on the sign up sheet) so we can make sure the vibes stay tone relevant! We are looking for any acoustic stringed/wind/brass instruments, both solo and group performances. Please bring in your musical talent, along with your writing :) TLDR? Hi all, we have an awesome opportunity open! The Honors College is hosting a student showcase during their parents night! Any student, honors or not, is free to submit as long as the art/poem is family friendly! The pieces submitted can be as old or as new as wanted- and you can submit up to ten works. We will most likely only choose one-three to make sure we get as many different artists as possible :) All acceptances/denials will be sent out during submissions, and completely finish on October 5th. All submissions MUST be submitted OCT 4th 11:59 PM. If your submission is denied, feel free to resubmit with other content! We are trying to have the vibe be good and cozy for these pieces (anything family friendly is good too, though!!!) Please deliver your physical artwork/poem by the OCT 8TH so we can get everyone's work up! The delivery sites will be: The continuing education building, second floor (please leave a note that this is for the parents night student showcase!) The Brushfire office, Joe Crowley Student Union third floor (you can leave them at the front desk, please leave a note that this needs to be given to the Brushfire staff!) If your accepted piece is not delivered in a way that is displayable by the EIGHTH, we will not be able to put it up. (Written works can be put into a visual format, such as printed/painted on a canvas, or in a sheet protector/laminated.) WHEN SUBMITTING: Please make sure to read all the information on the form!! We promise it isn't too long, but it IS super important! If we find that you haven't fully read, we will ask you to resubmit. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Hey all, its around that time again!! Literature + Art submissions are open for the Fall 2025 journal! You can find the submission through the link on this post, or the link in our bio. Our submissions for Fall close up October 14th, and anything submitted after that date will be considered for Spring 2026 instead! If you submitted over the summer, we are in the process of going through those for Fall's journal :) As always, we accept all different types of writing and art, at all skill levels! If you dont get accepted this semester, please resubmit! You can send in as many pieces as you'd like, we just ask you do it in the same submission file to help us sort through. We also have Spring 2025's journals popping up around campus! You can find them at various Brushfire racks around the school. Best places to find them in bulk is the Joe or the CFA.
